Cold winter weather from Canada has gripped California with freezing temperatures, threatening vulnerable populations and the citrus crop. Millions of dollars of crops have already been ruined over the past few weeks and officials fear for others. The cold snap is expected to last for the next two days. A new record of –3°C was set on 12 January night for Monterey, 1°C below the previous mark in 1963. Sacramento equalled its record low (-6°C) from 1949. (posted on 15 January)
